A Terrific Snowmobile Hitch

For the past 18 years, we have been venturing into Burgdorf Hot Springs for an annual snowmobile trip. In the early years, our Phazers struggled along, pulling the loaded cargo sled. At least once, we had to make two trips out...one to pull out the cargo sled and another to pull out a broken snowmobile.

As the sleds got bigger and stronger, the trip got easier...except for one thing...the hitch. Ryan would be booking down the trail with the cargo sled bouncing along behind him (if you've ever been into Burgdorf, you know that bouncing is a gentle word for what happens on that trail), when all of a sudden, the cargo sled a) goes flying in the opposite direction, or b) skids along the trail upside down, or c) comes to a dead stop on the trail, while Ryan continues on his merry way. Why? The dreaded hitch.

A few years ago, Ryan created a hitch so that we could use the snowmobile to pull the cargo sled. The original hitch was made of stainless steel, about three pounds of solid metal holding snowmobile to sled. That cargo sled wasn't going anywhere it wasn't supposed to. Recently, he has been modifying and perfecting the program, and the body of the new hitch is made of aluminum, much lighter (less than one pound), while the tongue is made of stainless. It's pretty, too. Check it out:

Ryan now has these for sale locally. If you are interested, he would be happy to ship one to you. Contact him at keystone@pomeroy-wa.com

His next project is drop down brackets for the Yamaha Nitro. Stay tuned!

It's Cominnngggg!

Oh, boy. Snowmobile season is almost here. I can tell because our friend Ray calls every other day with fine tuning questions on his sled. I can tell because the twinkle in my dad's eye is getting brighter. And the best way to tell is by the inch of snow on a friend's pickup when he drove down from the Blues the other morning.

I decided to reminisce a little to get ready for the new season. These pictures are from one of our favorite places in the world, Burgdorf Hot Springs.

Snowmobiling Rocks!

This is a snowmobiling blog dedicated to awesome snowmobiling fun! Our family is a family of riders. As an enthusiast and a machinist, Ryan works to create new equipment that can make riding more fun and efficient. We plan to post some of those ideas and products here.

We also plan to write about the places we ride and post great pictures of those rides.

If you are interested in becoming a contributor to this blog, drop me a note and I will add you. Welcome!
